Fox held separate pre-Iowa town halls for DeSantis and Haley, but at 6 p.m. before prime time. Frustration boiled over when DeSantis' campaign manager, James Uthmeier, felt that a Fox graphic didn't show the extent of the candidate's appearances in Iowa. Asked by Ainsley Earhardt if she would withdraw if she lost New Hampshire, Haley said she would not. “I don't care how much y'all want to coronate Donald Trump,” Haley said. “I don't need any advice from RINO Kayleigh McEnany on Fox,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referencing the conservative slur Republican in Name Only.

He listed a "possible claim for unpaid legal fees against Donald J. Trump" in response to a question about any potential outstanding claims but did not specify how much he might be owed. AdvertisementThe New York Times previously reported that Giuliani had repeatedly unsuccessfully appealed to Trump to pay his overdue legal fees. His recent efforts to raise money for legal fees resulted in him netting just $1 million from 13 donors. On Friday, a federal jury saddled Trump with $83.3 million in damages in the E. Cohen already let the case proceed against Fox News — and on Wednesday, he rejected a request by Fox Corporation to throw out the claims against the parent company. The parent corporation had argued that it shouldn’t be involved in the defamation case because it only had general oversight of Fox News itself. The case is still in the discovery phase, with some major depositions taking place in the past month, including former Fox Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch. The decision boosts Smartmatic’s case against the right-wing media behemoth. A similar 2020-related lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems was also allowed to proceed against Fox and its parent company.

In fact, "data centers are taking a disproportionate amount of incremental capacity being added by electrical equipment manufacturers." Much of the energy data centers consume is used to train AI models as well as to run them. Natural resources, power supply, funding — the necessities that allow for the existence of the data centers — aren't exactly infinite. The company's business took off last year as data centers began to need more electrical equipment capacity and generated more heat. In a post for the new Opinion blog — which you should read! — I argued that there’s nothing mysterious or hard to grok about Donald Trump’s appeal to a large segment of American voters. It is not hard to find, throughout American history, Trump-like demagogues with loyal followings. And these men tend to represent, most often, the popular expression of a certain will to power — the freedom to dominate. Either way, these demagogues stand for a supposed right to exclude and exploit, always in defense of one hierarchy or another.

How Group Chats Rule the World
  + stars: | 2024-01-16 | by ( Sophie Haigney | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +6 min
We often get glimpses of such group chats in court filings, the familiar blue-and-white bubbles of iMessage screenshotted and laid out as evidence. I know of a group chat in which, among other things, a group of successful men trade investment tips and even function sometimes as a de facto investment group. You have to wonder what was being said in this “200+ tech founders” group chat before the bank run. The dynamics of group chats — who is in them, who is not — might seem like the adult version of kids’ jockeying for a lunch table. One of my favorite group chats, now defunct, was among me and two friends I was suddenly becoming closer to.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — MyPillow chief executive and prominent election denier Mike Lindell said Friday that Fox News has stopped running his company's commercials, disputing the network's assertion that it is simply because he hasn't paid his bills. Lindell went public by tweeting that Fox, which had been one of MyPillow's biggest advertising outlets, had canceled him. Several big-box retailers, including Walmart, have discontinued his products, and lawyers who were defending him against defamation lawsuits by voting machine companies quit. In an interview with The Associated Press, Lindell acknowledged that MyPillow owes money to Fox. He said MyPillow has long spent an average of $1 million a week to run its ads on Fox.

New York CNN —Tucker Carlson’s top producer, who left Fox News along with the far-right host to work on his X show, is accused of sexually assaulting a former colleague in an alleged incident that occurred more than a decade ago. Andrew Delancey, a former Fox News employee, filed a lawsuit against Justin Wells, the former executive producer of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” accusing him of sexual assault and harassment in 2008 when Delancey moved to New York for a job with Fox News’ affiliate video service. In the lawsuit, Delancey alleges that he was befriended by Wells who told Delancey he could help him “learn the ropes” of the right-wing cable network. At the time Wells was a producer for Greta Van Susteren’s Fox News show. Fox fired Carlson in April and canceled his program during the fallout from the $787 million lawsuit settlement between Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems.

Rupert Murdoch is being deposed Tuesday as part of the $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit filed against Fox Corp. by the voting technology company Smartmatic, a source familiar with the matter told CNBC. It is the second time this year that Murdoch, 92, has been deposed in a high-stakes defamation lawsuit accusing Fox News of airing damaging lies about the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Fox paid $787.5 million to settle Dominion's lawsuit, nearly half of the $1.6 billion figure initially demanded by the voting company. Tennis - US Open - Mens Final - New York, U.S. - September 10, 2017 - Rupert Murdoch, chairman of Fox Corp, stands before Rafael Nadal of Spain plays against Kevin Anderson of South Africa. But by establishing that he was involved in making decisions about Fox's coverage, Smartmatic would have a better chance of proving that Fox Corp is liable. In order to prevail in a defamation case, Smartmatic must prove that Fox knowingly spread false information or recklessly disregarded the truth, the standard known as "actual malice." CNN —Rupert Murdoch is set to be deposed on Tuesday in voting technology company Smartmatic’s mammoth $2.7 billion election defamation lawsuit against Fox News, a person familiar with the matter told CNN. A spokesperson for Fox Corporation declined to comment, though the company has consistently said it plans to vigorously fight the lawsuit. Smartmatic filed its lawsuit against Fox Corporation in 2021 after it was swept up in baseless conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. REUTERS/David Swanson/File photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 24 (Reuters) - Canceled offshore wind projects, imperiled solar factories, fading demand for electric vehicles. A year after passage of the largest climate change legislation in U.S. history, meant to touch off a boom in American clean energy development, economic realities are fraying President Joe Biden’s agenda. Clean energy experts interviewed by Reuters say the mounting setbacks will make the United States' ambitious targets to decarbonize by mid-century even harder to reach. Solar energy facilities account for two thirds of those delays due in part to U.S. import restrictions. "These are the normal ups and downs of clean energy development and deployment," Reicher said.

Snow covered transfer lines are seen at the Dominion Cove Point Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in Lusby, Maryland March 18, 2014. Methane is the primary component of natural gas, and is a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide in terms of climate-warming potential over the near term, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council, a U.S.-based nonprofit. However, in terms of methane intensity, or a measure of how much methane is emitted in the production of oil and gas, the United States ranks 10th, emitting 8.18 tonnes of methane per kiloton of oil energy equivalent (ktoe). That U.S. intensity rating compares favourably to Venezuela's 53.35 tonnes of methane per ktoe, and is 42% less than Russia's 14 tonnes of methane per ktoe. What's more, it is unclear where EU lawmakers will draw the line in terms of what methane intensity levels are acceptable, and if they plan to adjust thresholds over time.
